Corporate Leaders Promote Plan to Become Carbon Neutral by 2050 Newsweek, November 13, 2019 A number of corporate leaders have backed the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions’ (C2ES) plan to “transform the American economy into a net zero emissions system by 2050.” C2ES is supported by the Foundation’s Climate and Clean Energy program. Tax the Patriarchy The Atlantic, November 13, 2019 The current U.S. tax code “fails to fund many women’s most urgent priorities, including universal health care, subsidized child care, universal prekindergarten, and paid family leave,” The Atlantic’s Annie Lowery writes in this piece about the National Women’s Law Center’s (NWLC) latest reports on tax law, and gender and racial justice. Milgrom-Elcott: Better Teacher Preparation in Math Can Break Down Barriers to STEM for Girls, Students of Color & Low-Income Kids The 74, November 11, 2019 “Students without early exposure to math in the foundational years (…) are more likely to fall behind not just in more-advanced STEM classes but also in their careers,” writes Talia Milgrom-Elcott, executive director and founder of 100Kin10, a national network supported by the Foundation’s Education program. Coyote Valley Gets Preserved in Historic San Jose City Council Vote Silicon Valley Business Journal, November 6, 2019 This story highlights a partnership between the city of San Jose and nonprofit Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) to purchase “937 acres in Coyote Valley, preserving as open space property that has served as the landscape for some of the region’s biggest development battles in recent decades.” POST is supported by the Foundation’s Community and Opportunity program.
