News & Stories Grantee’s “Early Childhood Workforce Index” Highlighted on CBS This Morning Share By Heising-Simons Foundation on 2/23/2017 on 2/23/2017 CBS This Morning recently ran a short segment highlighting the need for adequate compensation for the early childhood education workforce, citing evidence from The Early Childhood Workforce Index, a report created by the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment (CSCCE) at UC Berkley and supported by the Heising-Simons Foundation’s Education program. The Early Childhood Workforce Index establishes a baseline description of early childhood employment conditions and policies in every state, and tracks progress on a state-by-state basis to improve early childhood jobs. Among other findings, CSCCEE found that while early educators’ skills, knowledge, and well-being are inseparable from the quality of children’s early learning experiences, states fail to provide the combination of appropriate compensation, professional work environments, and training that teachers need to help children succeed.
