News & Stories Heising-Simons Foundation Joins the Democracy Frontlines Fund in Support of Racial Justice Groups Share By Nondas Paschos on 11/13/2023 on 11/13/2023 Heising-Simons Foundation has joined the Democracy Frontlines Fund (DFF), an initiative of the Libra Foundation to support racial justice organizing. The initiative was launched in 2020, following the murder of George Floyd, in solidarity with the historic civil rights uprising. Heising-Simons joins 13 other funders who are collectively committing $35.5 million over three years. Funding will support power-building at the grassroots level to advance social justice through 11 organizations: Black Futures Lab, Black Voters Matter Capacity Building Institute, Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project, Black Youth Project 100, Communities Transforming Policing Fund, Movement for Black Lives, National Black Food & Justice Alliance, Southern Power Fund, State Voices, Taproot Earth, and Vision Change Win. These organizations will receive $3.4 million each over the next three years, and Vision Change Win will be awarded $1.5 million for strategy and security support, essential in this environment of rising hate crimes. “At a perilous time for our democracy, we are proud to join the Democracy Frontlines Fund to help resource organizations working at the frontlines of social justice,” said Sushma Raman, President and CEO of Heising-Simons Foundation. “We look forward to engaging in deep discussions and learning from leaders and other funders working in this space.” The Foundation joins the DFF as part of its grantmaking focused on advancing racial justice, out of the CEO Fund. Other funders include Crankstart, Hewlett Foundation, The JPB Foundation, Kataly Foundation, Libra Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Schmidt Family Foundation, Sobrato, Someland Foundation, Stardust, Tao Rising, Tides, and an anonymous donor.
