News & Stories Introducing Gabriele Betancourt-Martinez as Program Officer for Science Share By Cyndi Atherton on 1/13/2022 on 1/13/2022 We are excited to announce the addition of our newest member to the Heising-Simons Foundation’s Science program. Gabriele Betancourt-Martinez joined the Science team as a program officer on December 31, 2021, focused on astronomy, cosmology, climate change science, physics, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. For the past four years, Gabriele has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute de Recherche en Astrophysique et Planétologie in Toulouse, France. In the laboratory there she designed and tested prototype techniques and equipment for future satellite-based, high-energy physics observations. Prior to that, Gabriele worked on laboratory astrophysics projects and measurement technologies for space-based X-ray astronomy missions. She is the founder of IDEEA, an online community, journal club, and action network working towards Inclusion, Diversity and Equity in European Astronomy. With her background in astrophysics, physics, instrument technology and DEI, she is a welcome asset to the team. We are delighted to have her join and connect with our Science partners.
