When Dr. Andrea Ghez first proposed conducting research on a supermassive compact object at the center of our galaxy, she says, “people didn’t think it would work.” Earlier this year, and decades in the making, that work led Dr. Ghez to be awarded the 2020 Novel Prize in physics. In a ceremony filmed on December 10, Dr. Ghez received the Nobel medal and diploma. You can watch the ceremony here. Levine Professor of Astrophysics and the director of the UCLA Galactic Center Group. Her work is supported by the Heising-Simons Foundation’s Science program.
